after some clumsy misstarts, its coming back. today i've got the headphones on and am in concert pianist typing mode ("gzip -dc /tmp/b.tgz | tar xvpf - ; vipw ; rm -rf /var/empty ; mkdir -p /var/empty ; chown root /var/empty ; chmod 700 /var/empty ; cd build/openssl-0.9.8 ; ./config ; make install ; ..."). updating all the unix hosts for sshd (which has, as you can see, a couple of prerequisits) as well as updating a spreadsheet with their IPs, hostnames, disk layout, OS version and memory.. fun fun fun
